Altus Oklahoma Travel
I want to list some of my favorite things to do in Southwest Oklahoma and tell a little story so you too can fall in love with the area. As a waitress or bartender in Altus, I promise you that I am asked nine times a day what it is like to work in Altus Oklahoma. I'm not sure what to do. M like Texoma, but Anadarko is only 90 minutes away and a great place to learn more about the Oklahoma Indians, and it is just a short drive from the state capital of Tulsa, Oklahoma City. It is a small town with a population of about 1,000 people and a world-class destination with a lot of history and history to offer.
If you want a change of scenery and a closer outdoor option, you can drive two hours north to Great Plains National Park. From here you can watch the Longhorn cattle and buffalo that go everywhere and drive into the Wichita Mountains.
Arrive at the Museum of the Great Plains and visit Fort Sill Drive, then drive to the Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center, where you will learn about the history and culture of the Comanches and their history in Oklahoma. It also gives you the opportunity to learn about Quannah Parker, who was very influential and whose life was played out in this area. The Comancha National Museum is the largest museum of its kind in the United States and one of only a handful of museums in North America.
The community was originally called Hollis, a name for a path that served as a link between the Altus and Wichita Falls, Texas, railroad lines and the Oklahoma-Texas border. At the same time, the Altus, Wichita, Falls and Holles Railway, which became the Wichita - Falls Northwestern Railway in 1911 and was taken over by the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad in 1922, built a line to the border between Altus and Oklahoma / Texas. Altis was the terminus of the Western Railroad, one of two major railroad lines in the western United States that stretched from Wichita Falls in Texas to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, north of Oklahoma City.
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, which acquired the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railways in 1929, built a line to Altus in 1908. Elk City has a National Route 66 Museum and is a city worth visiting off the road.

It is not really a tourist destination, but we have found many things to enjoy during our time there, and we wish we had had the opportunity to spend longer in it. That is why we offer Quanah Park for day trippers and adventurers. We stopped there on our way from Dallas to Altus and wished we had time to stay longer.
